Alice

Through out the movie there are a lot of references to the story, Alice in Wonderland. Neo is equivalent to the character Alice; tumbling down the rabbit hole, find himself in a world that is very different from the one he knows. The writers of The Matrix first introduced the link between the film and the story, “Alice in Wonderland” through the introduction of the following of the white rabbit. There are also the constant visual motifs of a rabbit hole. There’s the constant view of the audience going through a phone line, through some dark portal resembling a rabbit hole.
